course one | A RETURN TO WHOLENESS
designing praxes for a nourished, relational and adaptive sense of self.
how do we expand our idea(s) of self to become more collectively response-able? in an era of political and relational fragmentation, this four-week course will explore and integrate teachings which reconfigure the sense of self. A RETURN TO WHOLENESS is an invitation to go beyond-self for connection in-communities + in-ecosystems.
informed by June Jordan and Etel Adnan’s archival correspondence letters, this curriculum expands on their lived-practices of friendship as a catalyst for political engagement, moving beyond identity politics, and poetry as a form of creative resistance.
together, we will question how we embody + perpetuate systems of oppression while naming new pathways for healing. participants are invited to be in-discussion and in-workshop with interdisciplinary teachings, to open up awareness around inherited perspectives + assumptions, and move into mutual exploration of lenses + frameworks that are rooted in evolving ethics + relational response-abilities.
spirituality-without-dogma, visual mediums, design tools, poetry and philosophy will become our portals for thinking together in this space. by the end of this course, participants will have a rigorous set of personally designed praxes to integrate into their work and socio-cultural spheres.
for those of you who are ready to let go of the self as an “endless project,” and step into a more relational + politically-grounded way of life.

“i need to simplify my thinking: to come to the roots of the olive trees i have planted on my island, sit close to them, look at every leaf. start early in the morning. then close my eyes and let the morning sun touch my face. go to the mediterranean at the street corner, go into its water, its salt, its acid colors, its heat… stop thinking… just be, and for many hours in a row, merge with this vegetal and metallic kind of consciousness which is so overpowering.”
— Etel Adnan
